Around 10:00 p.m. last evening, Thursday, May 8, 2025, a head-on collision occurred in the southbound lane of US Hwy 27 approximately ¼ mile north of the intersection with Bay Street (Sun Ray) in unincorporated Frostproof, resulting in the deaths of both drivers of the two vehicles involved.
According to the evidence at the scene and at least one witness, a 2021 black Toyota Corolla was heading northbound in the left southbound lane of US 27. At the same time, a red Nissan Altima was heading south in the left southbound lane. The two vehicles collided in a head-on crash, and the Toyota immediately caught fire. It was redirected and came to a final rest facing north in the left turn southbound lane. The driver of the Toyota, a 41-year-old Sebring woman, was the only occupant, and she is deceased.
The Nissan rotated clockwise 90 degrees and came to a final rest in the outside lane, facing west. The driver of the Nissan, a 32-year-old Kissimmee man, was ejected from his car, and died at the scene. His passenger, a 31-year-old Kissimmee woman who is believed to be either his spouse or girlfriend (they live at the same address), suffered critical injuries, and had to be extricated from the car and was airlifted as a trauma alert to a local hospital. She remains in critical but stable condition.
A 911 call was received at the same time as the crash occurred, reporting a car traveling the wrong way (north in the southbound lanes) at a high rate of speed on US 27 in that area.
