The City of Lake Wales Approves $20,485 for Task Order for Tower Boulevard Trail

Date:

by James Coulter

Before a new trail can be constructed at Kiwanis Park along Tower Boulevard, a topographical study of the land must first be conducted.

For that, the City of Lake Wales has approved $20,485 to be spent on a task order with Chastain Skillman to perform a specific purpose and topographic survey of the land where the trail will be constructed.

Lake Wales City Commissioners approved the agenda item, along with several other items on the consent agenda, during their recent meeting on Tues., July 2.

A new trail, which will stretch along Tower Boulevard from Lakeshore Blvd. to Burns Ave., has been proposed at Kiwanis Park. To build this new trail, the City will be applying for a grant application of $282,380 with a match of $70,595 from the City, according to the city website.

On Mon., Feb. 26, a public information meeting was hosted, according to the city website, “for the sole purpose of discussing the grant application to the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Recreation Trails Program.”

“Specific Purpose and Topographic Survey of Tower Boulevard are required for the grant,” the city staff memo states. “This Task Order will provide the necessary documents required for the grant.”

The task order will be carried out by Chastain Skillman, which falls under the Master Consulting Agreement the City has with the firm.
