LAKE WALES • The family of 22-year-old Gavin Michael Roberson is remembering him as a young man who valued family, hard work, and helping others.
Gavin passed away on October 25 in a tragic motorcycle crash. His aunt, Cathy Blackburn, said the family is still processing the sudden loss.
Gavin was raised by his grandparents, Christina and Stephen Boone. He had two sisters, Aaliyah Watson and Isabella Roberson, and a brother, Matthew Roberson. His aunt said he was close with his family and was always involved in birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings.
“He loved his family and would help anyone,” Cathy said.
Gavin’s life began with difficulty. His mother was involved in a fatal car crash while she was seven months pregnant. Doctors worked to save Gavin, and he spent two months in the NICU.
As he grew older, Gavin developed a strong interest in mechanics. He worked at Lake Wales Dodge and also worked with his aunt and uncle, Cathy and Chris Blackburn, at Masterpiece Gardens in Lake Wales. Cathy said Gavin enjoyed working on older Mustangs and owned two himself.
“He loved being a mechanic,” she said.
Gavin had recently purchased a motorcycle and enjoyed riding. Cathy said he had only owned the motorcycle for a few months but enjoyed it. She also shared that Gavin was very close to his niece and nephew and spent time with them whenever he could.
“He had the biggest heart” she said.
A celebration of life is planned for November 22nd at Masterpiece Gardens.
