The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Polk County Fire Rescue are currently on scene of a horrible crash on S.R. 60 & Walk in Water Road. The accident occurred at 12:06pm.
UPDATE 5:30 pm 12/9/24. A citation was issued to one of the drivers for violation of FSS 316.123(2)(A) failure to stop at a stop sign.
UPDATE 3:05 pm: Polk County Fire Rescue PIO on call has confirmed that a minivan was involved in the collision. A total of five people were transported, one of which was a pediatric trauma alert, transported by air.
Early reports are a silver type vehicle appear to have hit a van full of children. According to witnesses on the scene a helicopter medical evacuation is underway. It’s difficult at this point to determine, but it appears 3-5 children are involved in the crash. One of those is being airlifted.
Seven total rescue vehicles are on scene including 4 ambulances.
Please avoid the area as road blockage is occurring, but which roads are blocked is not clear.
