A second near drowning incident today, this one in Lake Wales, has resulted in a child being airlifted to the hospital as a precaution.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office PIO, Meghan Perry, says the call came in earlier this evening from a residence on Debbie Lane, near Lake Thomas Rd. in Lake Wales.
“A two-year-old was airlifted to the hospital. This is standard procedure because of their age – the child was awake and alert the whole time.”
According to Katelyn Hoverkamp, Polk County Fire Rescue PIO, the child was transported by helicopter after an individual drove the patient to the closest PCFR Station, 26. This station is located at 2902 U.S. Hwy 60 E. in Lake Wales, approximately 6 miles from Debbie Lane.
While the call sourced from an address near Lake Thomas, it is unknown at this time where the near drowning took place. Law-enforcement will conduct an investigation, as is standard procedure due to the child’s age.
