Pet In A Vehicle Contributes to Lake Wales Traffic Crash With Injuries

Having a dog in the car while driving ended with a terrible outcome after a traffic collision in Lake Wales sent two to the hospital and resulted in the dog’s death.

Lake Wales Police Department Public Information Officer Dale Hampton gave a statement regarding the circumstances that led to the collision:

“Vehicle 1 was traveling southbound on Scenic Hwy. approaching the intersection of Burns Ave. Vehicle 2!was traveling North on Scenic Hwy. passing Burns Ave.

“Vehicle 1 stated as she approached the intersection, a vehicle stopped abruptly in front of her, causing her to swerve out of the way. As a result, her dog jumped on her, causing her to oversteer into oncoming traffic (northbound lane), subsequently crashing into Vehicle 2.

“Vehicle 1’s driver and a passenger in Vehicle 2 were transported to Advent Health. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were removed by the rotation wrecker.

“The dog died in the crash.”

The roadway in this area is reported to be clear at this time.
