Northwest Complex Gets Fresh Look Following City-Funded Upgrades

Date:

By James Coulter & Carl Fish

Residents visiting the Northwest Recreational Complex in Lake Wales will notice several recent improvements, including new fencing, upgraded basketball equipment, and refreshed court surfaces that have transformed portions of the popular community facility.

The improvements stem from a project approved by the Lake Wales City Commission on April 8, which authorized approximately $23,000 in upgrades funded through a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant.

Among the improvements completed at the complex are the installation of new chain-link fencing, replacement basketball goals, court striping, and other enhancements designed to improve the recreational experience for residents who use the facility.

A recent visit to the complex shows much of the work appears to be complete, with new fencing surrounding portions of the recreation area and upgraded basketball courts featuring freshly painted surfaces and new goals.

Located along F Street and Florida Avenue, the Northwest Complex serves as one of Lake Wales’ primary outdoor recreation facilities. The complex includes baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts, concessions, picnic areas, and other amenities that are regularly used by local families and youth sports organizations.

City documents show the improvements were completed through a proposal submitted by SEMCO Construction, with funding provided through the state recreation grant program.

The upgrades represent one of several ongoing investments in parks and recreation facilities throughout the city and are intended to enhance opportunities for sports and outdoor activities in northwest Lake Wales.

Upgrades to Tennis Courts

“The improvements may not be massive, but they are the type of upgrades residents notice and use every day,” the story angle should emphasize. “New fencing, updated courts, and improved equipment help keep community recreation facilities safe, attractive, and functional for years to come.”
