Warning Period Begins as Second Round of School Zone Speed Cameras in Lake Wales Go Live

Date:

On February 4, 2026, the second phase of school zone speed cameras went live, according to Lake Wales Police Department.

Speed cameras are now in place on Burns Avenue, on both the eastbound and westbound lanes, covering Lake Wales High School, Victory Ridge Academy, and Spook Hill Elementary.

Cameras are already live on Highway 60 in front of Hillcrest Elementary, where they remain in a cycle of issuing warnings until February 27. At that time, citations will begin being issued to violators. Citations will come with $100 fine.

The Burns Avenue cameras are live in the school zone, where the speed limit is 15 mph, from 6:50 AM to 8:10 AM, and again from 2:45 to 3:45 PM, with the exception of early release days. Cameras will, however, remain live throughout the school day; they will follow the restrictions for the normal posted speed limit during the middle part of the school day.

After the 30-school day warning period, citations will begin being sent by mail.
