LAKE WALES – Gregory Lewis, the now-former Principal of Bok Academy North, resigned April 1 after his arrest for petty theft. Toyaleta Speed, Assistant Principal, has been named Interim Principal for the school.

According to the Lake Wales Charter School officials, Lewis resigned following his March 28 arrest in Winter Haven. Lewis was arrested at Walmart for skip-scanning while using the self-checkout line, meaning he intentionally failed to scan certain items before completing his purchase. The total value of the stolen items was less than $40.

He was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.

Until being named Interim Principal, Speed was the Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Bok Academy North, ensuring students and staff were equipped with research-based instruction. She received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Florida A&M University and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Nova Southern University. She has more than 20 years experience in education.
