The Lake Wales Daily is referring to this case as a possible hate crime. Law enforcement has not classified it as such at this time. However, the targeted business is minority-owned, and the weapon used—a Molotov cocktail—is not a typical choice for vandalism. The haphazard way the paint was sprayed on the business’s window (“Civil War” in large letters, with “Trump” in tiny letters at the end) raises questions about intent. We will continue investigating this story. – Carl
