What to Plant in January in Your Garden

Date:

There are several edible plants you can grow in your home garden, no matter what part of the Lake Wales area you live in (Central Zone). Here are some ideas as to what seeds to start and what plants to get in the ground in January for a successful late winter harvest (courtesy of IFAS Extension UF):

Easily transplant: arugula, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, collards, eggplant, endive, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, peppers, sugarcane, Swiss chard, tomatillo, and tomatoes.

Transplant with care: celery, mustard, pineapple, potatoes, and spinach.

Use seeds: cantaloupes, carrots, corn, cucumbers, onions (bunching), peas (English), radish, squashes, turnips, and watermelon.
