New Basketball Courts, Picnic Tables Coming to Lake Wales Park with a $50K Grant

Date:

by James Coulter

Visitors to Lake Wailes Park can expect to see renovated basketball courts, new picnic tables, and other amenities now that the city has approved a $50,000 grant agreement.

At their regular meeting on Tues. Dec. 3, 2024, Lake Wales city commissioners voted unanimously to approve their consent agenda. One of the items was a grant agreement for $50,000 to rehabilitate the amenities at Lake Wailes Park.

The Department of Environmental Protection, through The Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP), had awarded the City of Lake Wales a grant of $50,000 to rehabilitate its main park.

Stephanie Lutton, Parks & Recreation Director, explained that the grant will help finance “renovations to the basketball courts, added picnic tables, playground, and exercise equipment for the enjoyment of the community.”

By approving the consent agenda item, city commissioners approved the City to accept the grant and authorize the city manager to execute the grant agreement on the City’s behalf.
