City of Lake Wales Water Towers to Feature New Artwork

Date:

This is one of four water towers within the City of Lake Wales that will display new artwork in the coming months

A press release from the City of Lake Wales today announces the redesign of four water towers within the City of Lake Wales in the coming months and years:

“Four water towers in the City of Lake Wales are being designed to reflect the city’s heritage. The water tower located on Highway 27 at the Eagle Ridge Mall was the first painted with artwork to pay homage to the Lake Wales High School Highlanders.

“The Market Street water tower located in the downtown historic core is set to be painted in September. It will feature artwork reflecting the city’s “City in a Garden” initiative, established in the 1920’s by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead Jr., and the city’s founding town planners.

“The water tower next to Lake Wales High School will also include artwork to pay homage to the Lake Wales Highlanders. This tower is scheduled to be painted in 2025 or 2026.

“The fourth water tower located on the south side of Lake Wales, located near Hunt Brothers Road, will feature artwork that reflects various sports represented in Lake Wales.

“Holly Britt, the City’s utility operations manager is overseeing the project. Britt says the reason the look of the water towers is so important is because “the towers show the character of our city.”

“The city has added a water tower every 15 to 20 years, bringing the total water tower count to four, which is a testimony to the city’s growth over the last half century.”
