Changes Coming To Waste Collection In Unincorporated Polk County Starting October 1

Date:

A new name, a program ending, and a possible schedule change; a recent direct mail piece was received by local residents regarding upcoming changes within the newly renamed Polk County Solid Waste Division.

On October 1, the following changes will take effect:

Polk County’s curbside recycling collection program will end. Residents may continue using their recycling bin for household or yard waste until it is no longer serviceable. If you prefer the bin to be removed, you may contact Polk County Solid Waste Division.

The collection schedule may change. Household and yard waste will now be collected at the same time. You may find a sticker on your household waste container that indicates your new collection date, or you may visit www.polkwastewise.net for information.

Also effective October 1, the department service area within the county will be expanded, and a new hauler has been contracted to provide “world-class service”, according to the mailer. In addition to these changes, the department will now maintain the new Polk County Solid Waste Division name.

For additional information or if you have questions, you may call the Polk County Solid Waste Division at 863–284-4319.
