In Loving Memory of Michael Allen Shoppa, 71, of Lake Wales

Michael Allen Shoppa, a cherished husband, father, and veteran, passed away on November 3, 2025, at AdventHealth Lake Wales, Florida. Born on March 13, 1954, in Muscatine, Iowa. Michael’s life was marked by his dedication to family, passion for the great outdoors, and commitment to serving his country.

During his formative years, Michael developed a strong sense of adventure that would define much of his life. He proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era, an experience that instilled in him the values of honor and duty. Following his military service, he forged a successful career as a truck driver, where he traversed the open roads, creating countless memories along the way.

Michael was a member of the American Legion, representing Iowa with pride long after his return from active duty. His love for nature was evident in his various hobbies; he found joy in shelling, fishing, and hunting for shark teeth. A true nature enthusiast, he also delighted in birdwatching and traveling, immersing himself in the beauty of the great outdoors.

Michael is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sally Shoppa, whose love and companionship were the cornerstone of his life. He is also survived by his daughter, Misty Armstrong, and her husband Chuck of Omak, Washington; and son, Kristian Shoppa, and his wife Rachel of Davenport, Iowa. Michael’s family extends to his sister, Sherri Goans of Missouri. brother in laws, Jim (Sandi) Burke of Catlin, Il, Virgil (Kim) Burke of Leroy, Il, Aaron (Melinda) Burke of Fithian, Il; Sister-in-law, Mary (Bob) Vandenberg of Dundee, Fl; six grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews; adopted sister, Lori Selassie of Arkansas and her three children.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, John Shoppa and Norma Reynolds, as well as his brother, John Shoppa, and sisters Christina Shoppa and Candace Lloyd. Though he has departed from this world, Michael’s spirit and the memories he created with those who loved him will resonate in their hearts forever. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
